Since 1968, the HUD Housing Counseling Program has been committed to the needs of home-buying consumers and its legions of stakeholders. The Housing Counseling Program provides a comprehensive array of invaluable information, education, and resources, including but not limited to the following:

Do-it-yourself workshops and classes to help maintain and improve your biggest investment

Guidance to help homebuyers avoid default and foreclosure

Training, tools, and promotional materials designed to assist HUD-approved housing counseling agencies in providing their vital services
Homebuyer Education
Hear how new homeowner Katie Smith took advantage of available resources to purchase her first home:
Free monthly sessions with counseling services from a HUD-certified agency for all interested in learning the best way to approach buying a home. Homebuying topics include discussions relating to credit guidance, financial guidance, home selection, mortgage guidance and post-purchase education.
Homeownership Counseling
Comprehensive homeownership counseling services from a HUD-certified agency are provided free of charge to home buyers, homeowners and renters - both current and prospective.
Financial Capabilities and Budgeting
Financial capabilities workshops hosted by a HUD-certified agency are held in the communities that we serve in Cullman, Lawrence and Morgan Counties. A focus is placed on financial guidance relating to creating a spending plan by using the Money Management Calendar to track spending and develop an obtainable budget. Workshops are led by Director of Homeownership Services Candy Ayers.
