Weatherization Day Oct. 30th

Wednesday, Oct 25, 2017

The Community Action Partnership of North Alabama (The Partnership) will host a Weatherization Day event on Monday, October 30, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the home of Decatur residents Jerry and Billie Stewart at 401 3rd Street NW in Decatur

For more than 40 years, The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program has reduced energy costs for low-income households by increasing the energy efficiency of their homes, while ensuring their health and safety. The Program supports 8,500 jobs nationally and provides weatherization services to approximately 40,000 homes every year using DOE funds. Through the Weatherization improvements and upgrades, these households save on average $283 or more every year (National Evaluation).

The Partnership’s Weatherization Assistance Programs assisted 21 families in North Alabama with weatherization services in 2016, and will serve 25 families by the end of the 2017 fiscal year.  Working through certified contractors, the Partnership’s Weatherization program provides energy conservation improvements, including insulation, air sealing, weather stripping, addressing indoor air quality, and health and safety measures, while reducing energy consumption by an average of 30% per household. This program serves households that meet established income guidelines in Morgan, Lawrence, Cullman, Marion, Walker and Winston counties.

Brief comments by partners and elected officials will be made at 2:00 p.m. at the Stewart’s residence.
